SIGMA Detergents Properties and Applications

international center for biotechnology information

Detergents are water-soluble, surface-active agents composed of a hydrophilic head group and a hydrophobic or lipophilic tail group. Dueto their amphiphilic character, detergent molecules aggregate in solution to form micelles. They can also align at aqueous/non-aqueous interfaces, reducing surface tension, increasing miscibility, and stabilizing emulsions.
